When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is impacted. Children may fear the worst and need a neutral third party to talk it out. Many times, teachers are one of the first adults that students come to when they receive the news of a diagnosis. As a Designated Survivor, you could help spread the message of hope and talk through some of the pain that comes when a family is diagnosed.

As an adult that has experienced cancer, sharing your own story and comforts with students can be a big help. Hearing from a trusted adult that all hope is not lost can be fundamental.
